Persistence

A home is built one stick, and one stone, at a time.
The hardest one to put into place is the first one.
From there it’s just a matter of persistence.

A door, and a chimney

2019-06-29T09:46:20+00:00

IMG_1852

Now here is something you don’t see often.

A door next to a chimney.

It does look good there doesn’t it?

I do appreciate any opportunity I’m offered to gain an up-close look at a stone chimney.

I would think that the one downside to having a door here would be that anytime that door would be opened, while a fire was burning in the fireplace, that the draw would be affected and some smoke would enter the room.

Fresh hewn logs

Here is fine example of new logs that have been recently hewn with a broad axe in the traditional manner. The finished result is attractive, will last for centuries, and if the labor involved was done by the cabin’s owner (not factored into the cost)… these logs are much cheaper than those found in any log home kit. The only downside is that these logs should be allowed to cure for a couple of years before chinking.

What is your opinion of the paint finish seen in this photo?
A) I love it just like it is
B) I’d put a fresh coat of paint on everything
C) I’d remove all the paint and have a clean natural wood finish.
