Stone, it’s what our planet is made of.

There is an endless supply of it.

It lasts forever.

It’s incredibly strong.

And it’s pleasing to the eye.

Amazing stone.

Have you ever had one of those days where you’d like to crawl up under a rock and hide from the world?

Quaker stone home

A Quaker stone home… notice the quality of the stone and it’s workmanship. Most impressive.
I can’t help but wonder what the folks of “years gone by” would think of our use of old wagon wheels as decorative items. So many old homes and cabins have them leaning against the home for an aging affect. I wonder if our descendants, a hundred years from now, will use 21st century spare tires to add a bit of our vintage era to their homes?

Shutters on a stone house

I have yet to see a home that had shutters on it that was not more attractive for having them. Clearly there are homes that shouldn’t have shutters on them but thankfully those homeowners have not put out the extra effort and expense to do so.

A stone roof

I know… nothing lasts forever.
But what is the life expectancy of a stone roof?
I would think it would certainly be hundreds of years… likely, thousands of years… and perhaps, even longer.
I haven’t heard anything on the evening news about there being a shortage of stone so why is it that this type of roof is so rare?
The average asphalt shingle roof needs to be replaced every 20 years. If a stone roof could last a millennia the occupants of this house over those years could avoid replacing the roof 50 times. (considering inflation I bet the 10th replacement would cost the same as the option of having originally installed a stone roof).
The builder of this home gave a great gift to the future occupants of this home, some of those homeowners may spend their entire lifetimes in this home, but none will ever pay for the cost of a roof replacement.
