I do like a stone home.
Laying stone is a form of art, and a great hobby.
It’s a joy to do.
It’s great exercise.
It’s affordable (if a person lays it themselves).
It’s also meditative… It slows a person down and helps them appreciate the moment.
And to top it all off, it creates something beautiful that can last forever.
Notice the varying depths of each stone… perhaps a bit overdone here on this house… but one of the common flaws that I see in so much of the newer work done today is “flat and shadow-free”. Here we see there is plenty of texture for the eyes to enjoy.

I agree with you Carlo. Over the last few decades it seems everything about construction has been cheapened… quicker methods and fake products have been produced and quality work is rare… from engineered stone, to vinyl siding, to laminated flooring. Thanks for your comment!

This is beautiful! I like the textured effect and the odd therapeutic feel that it somehow gives! I agree with you in that it is a bit overdone though.
Would it be difficult to build a structure like this….(would you know the type of stone shown here)? Would this be a subject that you will address in your upcoming stone mason academy?
I have searched quite a bit around the web, but can only find how to build stone fences, stairs and such, but not actual home walls.
By the way, I have very much enjoyed your Log Home and Handmade House Guild courses.

Yes indeed… I do intend to dive deeply into properly laying stone to bring out the most amount of it’s beauty and strength in the upcoming Stonemason Academy course. I too am often surprised at the near total lack of covering the topic of using stone to build ones home… and if it is covered it’s often used in the worst possible way. I hope to remedy that!
