Log cabin windows

The front facade of this cabin is very attractive… oh, so nice… The windows and front door are just perfect.
On the first floor the windows are 9 over 6’s, while on the second floor they are 6 over 6’s… and how about that precious window unit above the front door… Nice.
Yes, I struggle to ignore the replacement brick chimney on the end of the cabin… what were they thinking?

Here’s a great start towards having a dream cabin…
1) A timeless design
2) Vintage logs
3) A properly built stone chimney
4) Wood shake roof (anything but asphalt shingles)
5) Great location

The beauty of aged wood

There a special warmth to the soul that one gets when living in a home built of aged wood.

It cannot be reproduced with new lumber.

But, it can be achieved in building a new home by using salvaged materials.

The combination of stone and log

I do love the combination of log and stone.
On this cabin we used limestone that we gathered from the Shenandoah Valley here in Virginia.
I thought the copper roof and bow window of the stone section added a lot to the overall appeal of this home.

How about pausing for a moment and remembering the things you are thankful for today.

Hidden logs

Notice the still remaining painted corner-board. This greyed and weathered cabin was covered in siding as so many old cabins were at the time. When nearly everyone lived in a log home having a wood sided home was highly desirable.
Many of the old farmhouses that we see today have logs hidden within.
