Is it a log home, or a stone home?

For those who can’t decide if they want a log house… or a stone house.
I’ve never seen another like it.
Early log homes were “chinked with stones or scraps of wood and then a layer of mud and fiber was applied over that on each side to keep the cold and rain out. This is the log home that I’ve seen where a mason carefully applied and chinked around these stones. The result, while not common, is rather attractive.

A hewn cabin at sunrise
Noah Bradley2019-06-29T09:42:44+00:00A nice cabin, in a wonderful location.
I do enjoy a good cup of coffee in the morning on the front porch of a cabin.
There are two things that I would have done differently if I had built this cabin… I would have put a lot more emphasis on building a more attractive chimney (the stonework seen here on the chimney appears to have been done by more than one mason, each with different styles of randomly cementing stones in place)… And, I would not have used wide windows in the gable ends of the cabin (which visually makes the pitch of the roof look lower).

Log cabin windows
Noah Bradley2019-06-29T09:41:23+00:00The front facade of this cabin is very attractive… oh, so nice… The windows and front door are just perfect.
On the first floor the windows are 9 over 6’s, while on the second floor they are 6 over 6’s… and how about that precious window unit above the front door… Nice.
Yes, I struggle to ignore the replacement brick chimney on the end of the cabin… what were they thinking?
