I notice almost all the porch roofs have the ends closed in. Why is that?

Good Question!
That would be for several reasons… such as “looks”… and added strength.
But, the main reason would be to keep the porch drier. By bringing the ends down to the same level as the front of the porch it’s amazing how much less rain is blown onto the porch.
