When it comes to timber framing there is not finer example to be found than those within a grist mill, where timbers needed to be large and plentiful to handle the weight and stresses of the machinery and grain found within a water powered mill.
Within nearly every old mill you will likely discover a massive timber frame structure.
It takes great strength to withstand the might of a river, the movements of large machinery, and the weight of tons of grains.
A timber frame is up to the task.
And if it works for a mill… just imagine how well it serve you as part of your home.
At some point in this life I would love to live in a Mill. The Mills themselves are built so strong to withstand the weight of all the equipment and grains, and the stresses coming from the operating machinery. Not to mention having a slowly spinning water wheel and stream nearby… just perfect
