Arched stone fireplace in an old log cabin

An arched fireplace, complete with a surrounding mantelpiece… very rare in an old cabin.

I was wondering if you know what an old fireplace tool might be that is all metal and would be found standing beside a fireplace. It resembles a modern day toilet plunger in shape.
