For most of this country’s history our largest buildings were our churches and our barns.
Now we have Walmart and Target.

Fireplace cooking

Any well built masonry fireplace can be used for cooking. All that’s needed is the proper equipment.

There are few things finer than a meal cooked on an open fire.

No partitions in a log cabin!

2019-06-29T10:21:47+00:00

A log cabin is at it’s best when it used as one single room… a room with four log walls.
One of the many flaws in cabins using “log cabin kits” is that these cabins are divided up into various rooms each having a wall or two which is log.
I prefer either a small log cabin with a lean-to addition where the cabin serves as living space with a bedroom above it.
Or, a larger home that has one of more log additions off of it where these cabins serve as… living rooms, dens, bedrooms, or dining rooms.

What will your legacy be?

Stone walls.
Stone roof.
Zero maintenance.
And a joy to look at!
What a charmer.
The life expectancy of such a structure (if it can avoid earthquakes and bulldozers)?… certainly hundreds of years… perhaps thousands of years.
What else can a person do during a lifetime that can impact and bless people that far into the future?

Still proud

I can’t help but wonder why this fine home was abandoned.

After many years of decay and neglect, she still stands straight and true.

Worn paint

What is your opinion of the paint finish seen in this photo?
A) I love it just like it is
B) I’d put a fresh coat of paint on everything
C) I’d remove all the paint and have a clean natural wood finish.
