A handmade home doesn’t need to be built of log, or stone, or timber frame.
Modern construction (stick built) can be an excellent method to achieving a dream home… it’s an easy way to build, cost effective, and energy efficient. And, building inspectors love it.
The challenge (where so many fail) is in the use of natural materials, good design, and attention to details.
Just look at these two beauties… what do you think?

On occasion I am asked which timber frame company I recommend.
My number one source that I recommend is…
You!
Why let someone else have all the fun?
If the idea of doing the joinery on an entire home or barn is intimidating… consider starting with a small outbuilding first. You will find that the process is quite enjoyable. I have found that most timber frame companies showcase elaborate and highly complicated joinery, but the fact is that timber framing does not need to be overly challenging. Farmers and homeowners have been building their own homes and barns for centuries and with today’s reference materials and power tools it’s easier now than ever.
Even if you decide to go with a timber frame company (and there are quite a few good ones out there) it pays to have a bit of hands on experience and thoughts on designs before approaching them.

When it comes time to build your home… or even a shed… think “outside the box”.
This is a outbuilding that I built for myself… Outbuildings… you can’t get enough of them!
This was one of those “weekend projects” that took me the entire summer to put together. I have such an understanding, and patient, wife. God bless her.
I came up with a design that was historic, yet uncommon. It cost no more to arrange lumber differently than everyone else does. So why not?
I found an old antique door, and some salvaged windows to use… I saved some money in the process and created something unique and special in doing so. Win, win.
And the picket railing?… I found it at the local landfill. It took a little repair but someone else’s trash became my treasure!
And the red paint? hey, if you got it, flaunt it!
